Posture
Many of the problems seen by professionals such as physiotherapists and massage therapists like me, are related to poor posture.
What do we mean by an ‘ideal posture’?
With ideal posture, the forces of gravity are evenly distributed through the body, so that all joints are in their neutral zone allowing the natural balance and correct length of the muscles, our movement patterns are normal and function better, of course this is made easier without the absence of any wear and tear on the joints.
3 things you can do to improve your posture:
- Monitor a typical day, look for 'bad habits' .
- Make a list and work on improving one area each week.
- Use massage to correct any long term problems that have been caused.
Factors that may influence your posture:
- Repetitive movements, sitting at a desk for long periods of time
- Emotional issues, where stress can affect the way you hold yourself and affecting your posture
- Hobby/sport related influences creating muscle imbalances
- Injuries and illness, mental and physical
- Muscle weakness is a major factor in our postural muscles, pulling ourselves out of alignment
- Hereditary factors (if your mother for e.g. has a kyphotic spine)

Testimonials
I GRAY Cyclist, Wanstead
Janet has been providing me with massage treatments and exercise advice with good effect for some time. However, I have some persistently painful areas that have not always responded well and are possibly being exacerbated by my physical activities. Janet offered to include dry needling into my treatment and, although I was initially sceptical, I have become a convert. The fact that Janet was able to demonstrate the effectiveness of this treatment in three separate bi-lateral areas (neck, shoulders and hips) and achieve immediate muscle relaxation and pain relief is enough proof for me. I will be happy for Janet to incorporate this into my future appointments.
